How does sowing with our seed box work?

You've got a seed box at home – what now? In this guide, we explain step by step how to sow, care for, and grow your seeds into a thriving garden. Whether you have a balcony, garden, or windowsill: this step-by-step plan will help you get the most out of your grow kit, without needing a green thumb.

Step 1: Choose a good spot

Before you sow, choose a suitable spot. Place your seed tray in a bright spot with plenty of sunlight—for example, on a windowsill, in a conservatory, or outside on your balcony. Note: some plants prefer sun, while others thrive in shade. Check the instructions to see what your seeds need.

Step 2: Fill your seed tray with soil

Take the bag of potting soil from the grow kit and fill the small holes in your seed tray. Press the soil lightly with your fingers, making sure it's firm but not rock hard. This will help the roots grow better later.

Step 3: Sowing seeds

Time to sow! Scatter a few seeds in each hole. Don't sow too deeply: a thin layer of soil is often enough. The smaller the seed, the less soil you need to cover.

Step 4: Watering

Use a plant sprayer or watering can with a fine spray. The soil should be moist, but not soaked. Too much water = risk of mold. Place the seed tray in the drip tray to catch excess water.

Step 5: Let the seeds germinate

After a few days to a few weeks (depending on the variety), the seeds will begin to germinate. Check the soil daily and add water when it feels dry. If necessary, place the container in a warm place for faster results.

Step 6: Repotting to a planter

Once the seedlings have 2–3 leaves, you can carefully transplant them to a larger pot. Use the potting soil and pots from your grow kit. Place your pot in a sunny or partially shaded spot, depending on the plant variety.

Step 7: Enjoy your blooming garden

Your plants will continue to grow and will hopefully bloom soon! Water them regularly, keep an eye on discolored leaves, and, if necessary, move them outside when it's warm enough. You can also create a cheerful, blooming oasis on your balcony or windowsill.
